Nancy's Journey

My name is Nancy and I have the great pleasure of being a Get Fit trainer and team member. I have always had a passion for fitness and clean eating. In my early twenties, after having two children and getting away from the clean eating style I knew as a child, I cleaned up my grocery list and integrated good whole foods back into my diet. I learned early on that clean eating and nutrition were important for my overall well-being. What I didn't realize at the time was that it was the foundation that supported the healthy lifestyle I craved.

After joining Get Fit in 2013, I was inspired to challenge myself in new ways, and reach new fitness goals. After a year at Get Fit I had completed two 1/2 marathons and was feeling at the top of my fitness game. As I reflect back, It was the best I have ever felt in my life. That brought me to my next biggest fitness challenge. In January 2014, I began prep for my first NPC fitness competition. It was 12 weeks of grueling workouts and an extremely strict diet regiment. I was ingesting a long list of supplements that were loaded with artificial sweeteners, fillers, and who knows what other chemicals. All fats where eliminated from my meal plans and everything I put in my mouth was weighed or measured. On March 28th 2014 I stepped on stage at 108 lbs. to compete. On the outside I appeared fit and healthy but on the inside I was physically and mentally exhausted.

After my competition I found myself depressed, unmotivated, and unable to find balance and control what I was eating. I was over indulging in all the foods I had restricted myself from. The more I indulged the harder it was to get back to a healthy balanced diet. I had no energy or desire to work out. Things only continued to spiral downward and I ended 2014 overweight, frustrated, and depressed. I was determined to turn things around in 2015.

I kicked off 2015 training for the Modesto 1/2 Marathon. I strived to get back to what I loved and fitness was my focus. It was a huge struggle, but it felt great to be running again and challenging myself in the weight room. I was faced with extremely low energy and severe stomach problems. Some days I would workout and go straight to bed, I was overly exhausted. My stomach problems seemed to increase even after consistently improving my diet. I could not seem to drop a single pound of body weight no matter how hard I was working out. It was a hard fight and one I was not willing to give up on. I was devastated that I could not get my groove back. Finally, after battling through 1/2 the year, I approached Heather Sutton for help. I had come to terms with the fact my body wasn't responding to what use to work. I had to try a new approach.

I knew Food Fit was an amazing program but part of me still held onto old ideas. I had so many fears, I was afraid I would lose my hard earned muscle that I had struggled to regain. I had a huge fear of severely restricting my diet once again. I was also afraid to fail. After so much struggle and frustration I tossed my fear aside. I was broken and needed help. I followed Heather's advice and committed to Food Fit. I followed the 30 day program successfully. It was not easy. I did struggle, but my life began to change so quickly it kept me motivated. I had doubts, I freaked out about the way I was eating at times, but it worked. It was like a light switch being turned on in a dark room. My stomach issues almost immediately began to improve. The energy took a little more time but just seeing my body function properly again was huge for me. Heather was amazing and gave me the guideness and support I needed. I lost 8lbs, dropped 3% body fat, maintained my muscle mass, but most importantly I regained control of my body. For the first time in awhile, I truly feel good again. Food Fit was life changing for me. I will be forever grateful for the tools and insight I gained from this program and for the opportunity to get my health back.
