Hunger: a feeling of discomfort or weakness caused by lack of food, coupled with the desire to eat

Food Craving: an intense desire to consume a particular food

When we have a food craving many of us reach for the same things. Here are the most common things we crave:

  • Ice Cream/Frozen Sweets
  • Chocolate
  • Cookies
  • Fried Foods
  • Soda
  • Salami
  • Cake
  • Bread
  • Cheese
  • Burgers
  • Chips

The reason we crave these things is because they are composed of fat, sugar, and salt.

1. HOW DO I KNOW IF I'M HUNGRY OR JUST HAVING A CRAVING?

2. HOW DO WE FIGHT OFF CRAVINGS?

TWO WAYS TO HELP YOU FIGURE OUT IF YOU'RE HUNGRY OR FIGHTING A CRAVING:

1. STOP and ask yourself "Am I really hungry, or am I angry, sad, lonely, bored, tired, frustrated, etc.?"

2. If you can't narrow down your emotions, ask yourself, "Am I hungry enough to eat steamed fish and broccoli?" If your answer is yes, then you need to eat--you need to eat NUTRIENT DENSE FOOD--food that is nutritionally satisfying, not the sugar or processed food you were craving.

The average craving only lasts for 3-5 minutes. seriously.

5 WAYS TO BATTLE A CRAVING:

  2. Move (go for a run, go to the gym, take a walk, etc)
  3. Eat (nutrient dense food)
  4. Drink Water
  5. Nap
