CHALLENGEFit: Obstacle Course Race Training

Goals..
whether they are life goals, career goals, weight loss or fitness goals, they all have the same thing in common...when we reach them we feel unstoppable and start looking for that next goal. For me, I remember the first fitness goal I set when starting my first bootcamp with Get Fit. It was to plank for 2 minutes without dropping. I also remember the feeling of hitting this goal that I never thought I would and the craving to set the next goal, and the next one after that. That's the thing about setting goals, we're never done. Life is like a ladder... not in the typical sense of climbing the ladder to the next rung until you're at the top, but in the sense of building upon the bottom rung(that first goal we set for ourselves) and always looking to that next rung. It's a series of growth opportunities, we can either look up and recognize them and have the courage to reach, or we can decide to stay where we are, never looking ahead and staying stagnant. The more we grow ourselves and climb our own ladders of growth, the more we are able to go to the next person climbing and reach out our hands to help them up. By setting goals, whether small or big, we are building...building ourselves and growing our ladder taller, while also reaching out to others to allow them to do the same. Ultimately that's what this life is all about..filling ourselves so we can pour over and fulfill the needs of others, whether that looks like assisting them in their own goals, or sharing knowledge we have learned while climbing our own ladder.

This is what our AFA Challenge Fit training sessions are all about...Loren, Michelle and myself all once had goals to just try a Spartan Race, once we conquered that, the next goal was to not just SURVIVE the race, but to complete every obstacle without the 30 burpee penalty, then to get through faster...and the goals still go on now...but the biggest part of the obstacle course race training that has been a huge goal for the three of us is to pour into others, working together as a team to learn the obstacles, fight through the mental blocks and to support each other in pushing our bodies past what we thought they could do. Whether your goal is to do a short race like a mud run, a longer Spartan Super or Tough Mudder, or the challenging Spartan Ultra Beast, we will meet you where you are and help assist you in training for these goals...and HAVE FUN while doing it!

We had our first AFA Challenge Fit training on 8/15 and the group of about 30 who came out gave it their all and killed the monkey bars, bucket carry, the rope traverse and some hill climbing and rope climb practice! Future training sessions will continue to have obstacle specific training as well as strength and cardiovascular endurance training. If you've ever been curious about obstacle course races, if your goals involve OCR and training, or you just want the challenge of coming out and working out with us, come join us at our next training session this Saturday 8/29 6:30 a.m. at East La Loma Park(Dry Creek) and see what it's all about. This training will always be FREE and open to everyone in our community! If you have any questions, e-mail Loren Thompson at LThompson@ggam.org
