A Great Date

A Great Date

I have been researching the topic on how to have a great marriage. Jill and I will celebrate 40 years of wedded bliss this November (OK, maybe not all of it was bliss). I was pleased to find out that Jill and I do (most of the time) what a variety of sources communicate as keys to having a great marriage.

Some of the most common keys were:

  • Communication
  • Faithfulness
  • Honesty and trust
  • Patience
  • Forgiveness
  • Argue respectfully

But on everyone’s list, in one form or another was the statement, “spend time together”. I guess it’s true; couples that hang together…stay together. I love hanging with Jill. We enjoy many activities together. At the top is dinner and a movie or just going out for dinner together. We love boating and water-skiing, as well as travel, and yes, we enjoy working out together.

Think about it. It is healthy, fun (except maybe for leg day), social, and does not require a lot of prep work or additional expenses. You benefit individually as well as relationally. Talk about quality time!

On Saturday mornings, Jill and I often workout together and then head over to our favorite breakfast spot for a meal together - that sets the tone for the entire weekend.

My encouragement to all of you who have family memberships is to schedule a workout with your significant other or spouse at least once a week! You will be happier and healthier for it, and that makes for a Great Date!
