25 Things About Rachel

1. I have lived in Modesto my entire life. Phew! Good thing I love the people in it. ☺

2. I have been married for 3 years to my best friend and hunk of a husband, Chad. We go way back. Look at us as little babies. I was still in the “boys have cooties” phase, so excuse my unimpressed look.

3. I have a sweet 7-month-old son named Isaac Daniel! Motherhood has been one of the hardest, yet most rewarding stages of my life. Isaac is such a chill little kid…it almost makes me want another baby!

4. When I was 5, my brother and I were playing on a leg press machine in my parent’s bedroom. I was kneeling in the seat, and my brother pulled back the metal bar that your feet go on and let it go. It smacked me in the mouth and my two bottom teeth went through my lower lip. I still laugh over that fact that I was more concerned about getting blood on my mom’s white carpet than the gaping whole in my lip.

5. My hair grows super fast! I have donated my hair to Locks of Love.

6. My favorite sport will forever be soccer. I played on the same competitive soccer team for 8 years – we ranked #3 in the nation. Some of my closest friends and best memories are from those years.

7. I almost died on our honeymoon in Cabo. On the first day of our trip, we decided to bring our towels and drinks down to the beach. We decided to walk a little ways down the beach until we were all by ourselves (little did we know that no one was swimming there because it was a “red flag zone” meaning dangerously high wave breaks). Chad is an incredible swimmer, so he swam out into the water and I, being competitive, decided to join him. After hanging out in the water for a few minutes, he decided to swim back in to check on our stuff that was up a ways on the beach. I was following him out but I kept getting sucked back in by the current. Each time I would sprint out of the water, only to be thrown back on my knees and sucked back in. After getting thrown about 4 times, I finally saw an old man running by. I screamed for help and he ran down and yanked me out of the water. I didn’t swim in the ocean the rest of our stay and I had granules of sand lodged in my ear canal for a few months. Everything sounded crackly!!

8. I am a terrible backseat driver. But…I HAVE A REASON! One time I was driving on the freeway and a pick-up truck in front of me carrying a mattress totally lost its mattress while going about 70 mph. I was boxed in by two giant semi-trucks, so I had no choice but to drive over the mattress in my little Nissan Altima. I destroyed my bumper and screamed the entire time, but I didn’t die. So there’s that.

9. One of my proudest accomplishments is graduating summa cum laude from CSU Stanislaus in 3.5 years with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Studies. During those years, I got engaged, married, and had a baby. I actually wrote my final paper of my college career while going into labor with our son.

10. We chose to not find out if we were having a boy or a girl. And can I just say, it was the best surprise of my life! I will never forget when my husband threw his hands on his head and tearily shouted, “It’s a boy!” It still gives me the chills.

11. I was given a scholarship to play soccer at Cal Baptist University for their women’s soccer team. Due to a knee injury and two surgeries that were not as successful as they had hoped, my path was directed another way.

12. My favorite place to vacation is Lake Mead in Nevada. My husband’s parents live in Boulder City, NV and we go out to visit them at least once a summer. We practically live on the lake during those visits!

13. My mom jokes that she can’t take me anywhere as I have had my fair share of injuries. Broken arms? Yes. Fingers? Many! Snapped hand bones? Super painful. Torn ligaments in my ankles…black eyes…2 major knee surgeries (performed at Stanford Hospital by the DR of the 49ers). I could keep going, but you get the idea!

14. I have been fortunate enough to travel to South Africa, Kenya, Mexico, and all throughout Israel, Greece, and Turkey.

16. Ya’ll will probably hate me for this, but I don’t drink coffee. Cold brew, hot brew, however you wanna prepare it, my taste buds just don’t agree.

17. I did my best to stay active and healthy during my pregnancy. Here I am hiking 3 miles up a mountain at Gaylor Lake 35 weeks preggo!

18. I am obsessed with flossing. When I was in the 8th grade, I was a total brace-face. I remember going to my orthodontist and him telling me that if I don’t floss, my gums will become inflamed and grow over my brackets (exaggerate much?) I freaked out. Since that day, I have flossed at least 2x a day.

19. One of my favorite hobbies is water skiing. Guess who taught me? The one and only Bobby Fisher! ☺

20. My greatest goal in life is to honor God as a wife and momma.

21. I am a middle child. I have an awesome older brother Reece who is a missionary in Tijuana, Mexico and the most caring younger sister, Janay who is a college student at Grand Canyon University in Arizona.

22. Guilty pleasures: Sweet potato fries with caramel dipping sauce from Mike’s Grillhouse. It tastes just like funnel cake. My mouth is watering already.

23. After high school, I was extremely bummed that I couldn’t play soccer in college. So I turned to the world of personal training. I became NASM certified three months after graduating and have loved it ever since.

24. My favorite TV shows include The Office, Prison Break, and Parks and Recreation.

25. If I could eat breakfast food for every meal of the day, I would be perfectly content! Give me all the waffles.

BONUS: I am deeply in love with Jesus. I know that I fall short, as a wife, mom, and friend DAILY. I am so thankful that He would lavishly extend me grace.
